These movers do a difficult job. They take your items and carry them over state borders. The trip is often grueling even if the loading was easy. Here are 10 tips to help you when choosing a company.
#10 Consider Cost
Long distance moves are often expensive. They at least cost much more than local moves. In this one case we would suggest not taking the cheapest choice. Workers like these need exceptional care during the trip. If you hire people who do not care then you are taking chances with your property.
#9 Check their Background
Long-distance moves are risky in many ways. Illegitimate and non-licensed movers love this sort of thing. They offer a rate much lower than any other team’s rate. They then take your items and run off with them. Licensed, registered, and insured movers are the ones to use. We hope that you never have an experience like this. By choosing a reputable mover you will never have to deal with it.
#8 Dimensions Matter
Your company should measure or ask about the size of your homes. This is not always possible if you are moving between states. So it is best to give them any information you have on your new home. It is a sign of experience if they want to know this.
#7 Insure they Understand and Respect Your Rights
As a client you have certain rights. They need to inform you about them by law. At the same time your company needs to protect these rights. Many movers do not focus on this area. They need to because this is the law.
#6 Ask About Previous Moves
If they have a lot of experience they should be able to name some experiences. While they should never tell you specifics they should be able to recall a few stories.
#5 Do they Give Free Advice?
The answer for our group is yes. We hand it out all the time. Anyone you work with on a long distance move should do the same. There are so many things you can do to improve the trip. Having just one of them can make it much better for you.
#4 Can they Navigate City Geography?
Here is an odd question: do your movers know where they are going? Most of us think; yes, of course they do. Some movers do not actually know how to navigate. Avoid new movers for this reason as well.
#3 Do they have powerful trucks?
Long distance moving companies need durable trucks. This is common sense for most people but still important. New businesses sometimes learn that they don’t have great trucks. A breakdown on the side of the road delays your move. Make sure that they have a fleet of trucks which they maintain daily.
#2 Will the Long Trips Cost Extra?
Our #10 topic relates to this point. While you should pay more for this sort of thing there are extra costs. Some companies actually charge you for any “incidental” problems. Make sure beforehand that you understand the costs.
#1 Do they Work Hard?
We have all heard the horror stories about movers. Most companies, at least every few years, have on guy who slacks off. In a bad case no one works hard to move your items. Look for signs during the estimate showing whether they are hard workers. Attentiveness and punctuality are two good signs.
We meet all these requirements. No matter where you are do not settle for anything less than these. Let us know if you have any comments for us.
